Social Security Letters

Eligibility for Help Medicare Part D

Almost 1 in 3 people with Medicare will qualify for extra help that will cover between 85% and almost 100% of the costs of their drugs. The three letters below are examples of 3 types of letters.

The first was sent to those who Social Security believes will not qualify for extra help, based on Social Security information about the recipient's assets. If the recipient feels there is an error, s/he can appeal with Social Security.

The second letter is an example of an 'award' letter that describes how much assistance has been awarded. This assistance goes toward the 'insurance costs' (e.g. co-payments and out-of-pocket costs) and the costs of the drugs.

The third letter is an example of a denial letter resulting from an appeal.
